Cycloidal Gamelan Piece As follows from the title, the main idea is cycle. We have superposition of different time spaces, which are not quite usual. The melody is inspired by gamelan from Bali. It is static. The only thing that changes is the 'rhythmic speed' and pitch. 8:52 |

Ternary Quintet This woodwind quintet has been written in special melodic (harmonic) system, which is called 'ternary system'. This and many other systems were developed (to be strict, they were derived as a generalization of the musical experience of different ages and cultures) by Vyacheslav Gaivoronsky. The system in which our usual (western) musical thinking works is 'seven-based' - after every seven steps (i.e. every octave) the structure repeats itself. The harmony is based on third-chords (three notes or more with thirds between them). In the ternary system the role of octave plays fourth (quarta), so the structure repeats every three steps. The harmony is based on third-second chords (two notes with third between them or three with second and third between them). This type of thinking - from certain point of view, a kind of non-octave scale - was usual in early music and folklore of various nations, including Slavians. The piece consists of three parts, the middle part in turn consists of several variations which are divided by repeating refrain. 8:08 |

Koo-koo The title resulted from association with characteristic two-note ostinato which sounds throughout the piece. Minimal amount of notes used, minimal steps in melodic movement, minimal dynamics, minimal timbre set - extremely narrow way to walk on, a special case of meditation. 5:29 |

Waving in 5 One of my favorite meters - 5/8, in which I like to compose such, as I call them, 'wicker-works'. The development is accomplished by cyclic 'stratification' of new melodic and accessory voices. 5:57 |
